Polymer electronics and electrostatics

Professor Martin Taylor holds a Personal Chair in the University of Wales and leads the Polymer Electronics Research Group at Bangor. He was born in Harlech, Wales in 1946. He was awarded a BSc in Electronic Engineering in 1967 and a PhD in 1970 both from the University of Wales. His PhD was awarded for a thesis entitled "Electrical Characteristics of Polymeric Materials".

Professor Taylor is a fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and has served on the Committee of the IOP Static Electrification Group for many years. He is also a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer.

He has published many papers on the electrical properties of thin films, including insulating polymers, silicon dioxide, Langmuir-Blodgett films and most recently on semiconducting polymers. Ever since his PhD work, Professor Taylor has had an interest in the problems caused by static electricity in industry. This has led to numerous consultancies with some of the world`s leading companies and culminated in the publication of book entitled "Industrial Electrostatics - Fundamentals and Measurements".
