Micromachining and Lab-on-a-chip technology

Dr Julian Burt is a lecturer within the School of Electronic Engineering at Bangor University.

Dr. Burt obtained his B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from Bangor where he remained to study for his Ph.D. in biotechnological application of dielectrophoresis.

Dr. Burt’s research work has concentrated on the development of laboratory-on-a-chip systems for the handling and analysis of biological cells. This work has played a key part in establishing the microfabrication facilities available to IBMM in Bangor.

In conjunction with Prof. R. Pethig, the results of Dr. Burt’s research work have led to the creation of two university spin-out companies. Current research includes optical biochips and the development of microsystem manufacturing processes.
